Pro-Shift

Perspective control for medium format SLR cameras

Expands the capabilities of 6x4.5, 6x6, and 6x7 medium format cameras by allowing shift up to 20mm and 360° rotation.

Two versions: The ProSA-ZM uses Zork's propriety front thread and the Mini Makro helical focusing mount. The Multi Focus System or Mini Makro Mount thread directly on to the ProSA-ZM. The ProSA-P67 uses lenses from the Pentax 67 system for shift on 6x4.5 format cameras (Mamiya, Phase 1, Contax, Pentax, etc.).

Pro Shift Adapters for leaf-shutter cameras, such as Hasselblad V and H series (requires the Hasselblad V-H adapter) and Rollei 6000 cameras require a large format lens, our Mini Makro Mount and mounting tube (we fabricate these on a lens-specific basis). The lens and in-camera light baffle must be released separately limited hand-held use.

If you'd like to create a mini view camera, simply mount our Multi Focus System on the Pro Shift Adapter, and enjoy a full range of adjustments—up to 20mm of rise / fall and 25 degrees of tilt / swing.

ProSA-ZM (Zork-mount front thread) may be combined with the Multi Focus System
and a large format lens (in-lens shutter enables use on Hasselblad and other leaf shutter cameras). This combination provides 20mm of shift with up to 25 degrees of tilt. Minimum focal length 135-150 (depending on camera / format size).

The Zörk Pro Shift Adapters provide view camera-like perspective control in a lightweight, precise, and versatile package for medium format cameras with focal plane or leaf shutters. It may also be used on 35 mm SLRs and digital cameras that have a large prism overhang, thereby preventing the use of our Panorama Shift Adapter. Combine the ProSA with the Zörk Tilt Tube or Multi Focus System, and your medium format SLR gains the all of the crucial movements of a large format camera – rise, fall, tilt, and swing – without the weight, bulk, cost, or inconvenience of a view camera.

The ability to shift allows you to take on new photographic challenges with your medium format camera, such as table-top and product photography, while increasing versatility in portrait, landscape, and architectural photography (we also offer a 50/4 Mamiya lens conversion for most medium format, focal plane shutter cameras).

Models for different needs and cameras

The ProSA-P67 is designed for 6x4.5 format medium format cameras, such as the Contax 645, Pentax 645 / N, or Mamiya 645. It accepts most lenses from the excellent Pentax 67 / 67 II system. For architectural applications, the 45mm and 55 mm lenses are ideal. With the 45mm, shift of up to 20mm in the vertical and 16mm in horizontal orientation is possible, and up to 20mm in both orientations with other P67 lenses.

Note: The ProSA-P67 may also be used in conjunction with our Mini Macro Mount or Multi Focus System (which adds tilt/swing adjustments). This requires a Zörk thread to Pentax 67 adapter ring. In this configuration, the shortest focal length lens would be a 135-150mm.

The ProSA-ZM uses Zörk's proprietary threaded front mount to accept the Mini Makro or Multi Focus System. It is available in rear mounts to fit a wide range of 6x4.5, 6x6, and 6x7 cameras, including the Contax 645, Hasselblad 500 / 2000 / 20x series (and for the H series Hasselblad via the V-to-H adapter), Pentax 67 / 67 II, Pentax 645 / 645N, Mamiya 645, Mamiya RZ-67, Pentacon / Pratisix / Exacta 66 / Kiev, and Rollei 6000 series cameras. Enlarger lenses or lenses with an in-lens shutter must be used in conjunction with the Mini Makro focusing helical.

For cameras requiring an in-lens shutter the ProSA must be used with a lens containing a shutter. The light baffle in the camera and the in-lens shutter are released separately. This arrangement work well for table-top and studio work, but is difficult to manage hand-held.

Note: the ProSA-ZM in a Pentax 67 / 67 II mount may also be used on the Pentax 645, with Pentax P67 / 67 II to P645 adapter.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use my camera manufacturer’s lenses on the ProSA?
Shift adjustment involves moving a lens off axis, and so the image circle the lens produces must be considerably larger than the format it is designed to cover (see the Luminous Landscape article on perspective control). The P67 lenses, because they are designed to cover a 6x7 cm image area without shift, are able to cover the smaller 6x4.5 cm image image area when shifted off axis on a 6x4.5 camera. Also, to retain infinity focus the film-plane-to-lens distance must be exactly the same as when the lens is mounted directly to the camera body. The overall film-plane-to-lens dimension of the Pentax 67 system is retained using the P67 lenses with the ProSA-P67 on a 6x4.5 camera body – thus allowing for infinity focus and perspective control. This would not be possible using the original 6x4.5 lens.

What lenses are recommended for use with the ProSA?
The choice of lens will depend to some degree on the application, camera body, and ProSA model. For use on focal plane shutter cameras, such as the Pentax 67 / 67 II, Mamiya 645, and Contax 645 the shortest focal length that will also provide infinity focus is 120mm or longer. Shorter lenses may be used for table top and close up photography where the full focusing range is not needed. The ProSA-P67 allows all Pentax 67 lenses to go from infinity to minimum focus, just as they would on a Pentax 67 camera body. If you already own a large format system and lenses then one of these may be mounted on our Mini Makro Mount or Multi Focus System for use on the ProSA. However, please consult us for compatibility first as some design restrictions apply.  In operation, you will have to manually close the shutter before releasing the camera body’s internal light baffle (on "B"), then manually release the in-lens shutter for exposure. Because of the multiple steps involved in exposure, operation is typically done on a tripod.

How is focus controlled?
Because enlarger lenses lack a focusing mount, you will need to purchase either our Mini Makro Mount or Multi Focus System (which adds tilt and swing capability) for use with this type of lens on the ProSA-ZM. The APO lens used in conjunction with the ProSA and Multi Focus System is ideal for applications such as table top (magnification of up to 2:1 is possible with our extension tube set), architectural, landscape, portraiture, and many others.

The light weight and compact size of the ProSA, even when equipped with the Multi Focus System, makes it ideal for field use or even hand-held close-up photography. This configuration can replace a large format camera for extended travel and outdoor photography where the highest quality results are desired without minimum bulk and weight.
